Tron: Legacy review

A triumph of style over substance.  It’s not that Tron: Legacy was devoid of a plot altogether- it’s the fact that a not-particularly-strong storyline was hidden behind a barrage of CGI and special effects.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World review

Scott Pilgrim vs the World managed to be quite bad and very good at the same time. The film is based on a comic series, Scott Pilgrim, and has a strangely comic book-like feel.  It wasn’t my favourite film ever, but it’s unusual style makes it quite subjective. (more…)

Knight and Day review

I went into the cinema really excited about this film.  I like action films that don’t take themselves too seriously, and after seeing a trailer on Top Gear, I had high hopes for Knight and Day; alas, it was not to be. (more…)

The Expendables review

The novelty of having so many action movie heroes in the same film together was plenty enough motivation for me to go and see The Expendables.  Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Rourke and Jet Li- a dream cast. (more…)

Inception review

I’ve now come to an important decision- after hours of mulling it over, I’ve decided that Inception is the best film I’ve ever seen.  It’s classified as a physiological thriller, but really it’s just the perfect combination of action, intelligence and excitement. (more…)
